King Felipe of Spain has presided over the opening of the CaixaResearch Institute.
The CaixaResearch Institute is a new centre, promoted by the “La Caixa” Banking Foundation, to be a space for scientific research and innovation. It will work together with the CosmoCaixa Science Museum.

King Felipe was accompanied by the Minister of Health, Mónica García Gómez. Upon arrival, they were received by the President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Salvador Illa; the former President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa; the Government Delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto; and the President of the “La Caixa” Banking Foundation, Isidro Fainé.
In the lobby, King Felipe posed with a commemorative plaque marking the visit. He then met with the board of trustees before going to the auditorium, where the opening ceremony took place. The event was hosted by Mireia Castanys, director of the Research Centres Department of the “La Caixa” Banking Foundation and the institute’s deputy director.
The King then toured the new facilities and met with staff and researchers along the way.
At the end of the visit, King Felipe signed the guest book.
