The Duke of Kent and the Duchess of Edinburgh were in Surrey on Wednesday.

This afternoon, 28th January, the Duke of Kent was joined by the Duchess of Edinburgh for a special joint engagement. It wasn’t the first time that the royals have teamed up. Many can recall most recently seeing the Duke huddled next to the Duchess in the absolute downpour of Trooping the Colour 2025.

On Wednesday, the Duke of Kent,90, who serves as Chancellor of the University, paid a visit to the Surrey Space Centre in Guildford. The Duchess of Edinburgh joined in on the fun.

The royals visited the space and medical programmes offered by the University. Their Royal Highnesses observed student engineering projects that included Formula E racing cars.

The Duchess also fitted a satellite with a commemorative plaque to mark the visit. The plaque was inscribed with the royal monograms of the Duke and Duchess, respectively.

The President of the University of Surrey said:

For our students, whether still studying or already well into their careers, having two members of the Royal Family witness this work first-hand is an experience they will long remember. It was a truly memorable day for our entire community.

Members of the Royal Family have, over the years, visited the University numerous times. The Duke of Kent has served as Chancellor since 1976.
