Princess Madeleine of Sweden spent time in New York with the World Childhood Foundation to advocate for the safety of children.

Madeleine attended a high-level meeting at the UN and took part in the annual fundraising gala for Childhood USA during her trip.

The Princess visited the UN headquarters to take part in a high-level meeting, “Leaving no one behind: Ensuring sustainable action to end violence against children.”

The aim was to discuss actions the international community can take to protect children and to ensure that they are working toward the goal of no child experiencing violence.

The meeting was organised by Childhood USA, of which the Princess is Deputy Honorary Chair.

Princess Madeleine later took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the meeting, “Children’s needs don’t change — even when the world does. And their rights remain the same: to be loved, to be safe, to play and to learn — especially through turbulent times.

“Some children are at greater risk — facing violence, abuse, and exploitation. We must shine a light on them and act quickly to uphold their right to protection. Across the world, people are standing up for children every day.

“At Childhood, we call them ‘firesouls’ — those who protect and defend children, no matter what happens around them. Their voices must be heard. Their work must be supported and scaled.”

Her Royal Highness also attended the annual fundraising gala in the city and celebrated three honorees: Dr Najat Maalla M’jid, UN Special Representative on Violence Against Children, Alexandra Gucci Zarini, Child Protection Advocate of the Year and NetClean, Corporate Honoree.

A total of $1.3 million was raised during the gala.

Princess Madeleine is a passionate advocate for children’s rights and takes part in many Childhood events across the globe.

The World Childhood Foundation was founded by Queen Silvia in 1999.
