Queen Mathilde of the Belgians has visited a residential care centre in Gentbrugge, Flanders.

The Queen spoke to the elderly about their mental health.

Her Majesty participated in several discussion groups to hear the experiences of residents and volunteers.

She also put her support behind the new campaign “Te Gek!?” that works to break the mental health taboo regarding those over the age of 65. The campaign launches on 23 September.

The organisation thanked the Queen for her visit on Instagram, saying, “Thank you to the Queen for the visit and to home care centre De Vijvers for the hospitality!”

Mental health has been a focus of Queen Mathilde’s for many years and as part of her role as an advocate for the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

More information on the Flemish campaign can be found here.
