New coins are set to be released to mark the reign of Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, who will take over the Luxembourgish throne on 3 October.

The Banque centrale du Luxembourg has unveiled a new design for Luxembourg’s euro coins featuring Guillaume. Both circulated and collection editions will be released.

The coins will feature a photo of the new ruler, and following tradition, his face is in the opposite direction from his predecessor, Grand Duke Henri.

The coins in circulation have a picture of Guillaume with “LËTZEBUERG”, the year, and the Luxembourg Lion on the side.

Collector’s editions will have a photo of the Grand Duke with “LËTZEBUERG” and the year at the bottom.

The coins will come in denominations of 1, 2, and 5 cents, 10, 20, and 50 cents, as well as 1 and 2 euros, and the collector’s editions.

The new coins will go into circulation at the beginning of 2026. Older coins bearing the image of Grand Duke Henri will still be valid for use.

Italian artist Chiara Principe was responsible for the design of the coins going into circulation. Austrian engraver Helmut Andexlinger is credited with the collector edition.
