Grand Duchess Maria Teresa has resigned from her role with the Luxembourg Red Cross.
Her Royal Highness retired from her role as president during an assembly held in Luxembourg. She had held the role for the past 20 years.
An emotional Grand Duchess stepped aside on 24 November so that her daughter-in-law, Grand Duchess Stephanie, could take over the position as president.
Addressing the assembly for the last time, Her Royal Highness said, “The Red Cross embodies with strength and dignity the values that are deeply rooted in my heart and which, day after day, have guided our actions to improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable, whether here in Luxembourg or around the world. Today, I review, with great joy, these twenty years of commitment at your side. I am proud to look back on the journey we have come together, filled with moving and enriching moments.”

Board of Directors Vice Presidents Manou Hoss and Michel Wurth praised Grand Duchess Maria Teresa’s work with the Red Cross over the past two decades, and the organisation shared a video of the work she undertook.
The Assembly of the Luxembourg Red Cross appointed the new consort as the President of the Luxembourg Red Cross.
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa’s resignation comes after her husband, Grand Duke Henri, abdicated the throne in favour of their eldest child, Guillaume, in October.
