Princess Marie of Denmark revealed in an interview for her 50th birthday when she and her family will return to the country to live.
Speaking to Billed Bladet, she said that she, her husband, Prince Joachim and their two children, Count Henrik and Countess Athena, will move back to Denmark in 2027.
They will relocate once Prince Joachim’s role as defence industry attaché at the Danish Embassy in Washington, D.C., ends in August 2027.
The Princess told the Danish magazine at Amalienborg Palace, “The most important thing for my family and me are the years that lie ahead of us. Right now, as you know, we are staying in the US for another year and a half. Then the children can finish their schooling. Henrik will finish high school, he will be 18, and then we will move back.
“Athena will start high school here in Denmark. I think Henrik will want to continue his studies right away, but we will have to see. He loves chemistry, physics and mathematics. But he has to work hard.”
Princess Marie, who turns 50 today, said she’s looking forward to coming back to Denmark and working with her patronages.
The family moved to the United States in autumn 2023 after Prince Joachim worked with the Ministry of Defence in France for a few years.
