Princess Michael of Kent is believed to have suffered a stroke.

Social columnist Richard Eden has written in the Daily Mail that Princess Michael of Kent has suffered a recent stroke. “I hear that Marie Christine, who is married to Queen Elizabeth’s beloved first cousin, Princess Michael, is seriously ill,” says Eden.

It is believed that the 81-year-old Princess is now ‘bedridden’. There has not been any confirmation or announcement from Buckingham Palace or Kensington Palace—where the royal couple live—regarding the reported sudden illness.

According to the NHS, a stroke is when blood stops flowing a part of the brain causing face weakness, speech impairment, blurred vision, and other symptoms. Immediate medical attention is required for life-saving measures.

Princess Michael of Kent—born Baroness Marie-Christine von Reibnitz—has had a fair share of medical episodes in the past. Most recently, the Princess fell in 2024 while carrying overcoats at home, resulting in two broken wrists. The Princess previously said, “‘I am told that, after an accident like this, if you do one wrong movement on top of the unhealed bones, you are back where you started.”

The Sun reported in 2021 that the Princess was suffering from ‘blood clots’ and had sought medical attention. A media spokesperson for Princess Michael said at the time, “I cannot comment on health issues.”

Princess Michael was the third Member of the Royal Family to contract COVID-19 in November 2020, coming down with “extreme fatigue” and “terrible fevers”.

As previously stated, there has been no confirmation from the respective Palaces regarding the suspected stroke. The Royal News Organisation will keep you up to date on any developments regarding the Princess’s health.
