King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain are being received in Finland on a state visit to further strengthen close collaboration between the two countries.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia are in Finland this week on their first state visit to the country. Their Majesties arrived in Finland yesterday, with ceremonies officially kicking off this morning. The King and Queen were received with honours before a luncheon with city leaders.
The King and Queen were first received at the Presidential Palace by President Alexander Stubb and his wife, First Lady Innes-Stubb, in an official welcoming ceremony with military honours. The two couples warmly greeted each other before speaking with the various delegations. Once inside, the King and Queen posed for official photographs.
The four then proceeded to Helsinki City Hall, where King Felipe met with city, regional and national leaders. The state visit forms part of Spain’s commitment to strategic autonomy and the security and defence of Europe across all its borders, with a 360-degree approach, including the Arctic and the Baltic, as well as the close collaboration between the two countries in the political, economic, defence, cultural and scientific spheres.
It will also provide an opportunity to further strengthen the excellent bilateral relations that bind the two countries, which are partners in the European Union and allies in NATO.

While the King and the President met with city leaders, Queen Letizia and First Lady Innes-Stubb visited Käpylä Primary School. The two met with students outside before joining classes inside. The Queen even cheered on students as they participated in various physical activities.
The King and the President then rejoined the Queen and First Lady for a luncheon hosted by city officials.
Later today, the presidential couple will host a state dinner in honour of the King and Queen.
