Prince Joachim and family to remain in D.C.

Prince Joachim of Denmark and his family will remain in Washington, D.C. until 2027.

The Danish Ministry of Defence announced that the younger brother of King Frederik will continue his role as Defence Industry Attaché and Deputy Defence Attaché in the American capital until the end of August 2027.

Prince Joachim, Princess Marie and their two children, Count Henrik and Countess Athena, will stay in Washington. The Count and Countess will continue to be educated in the United States.

Speaking to Danish media, Berlingske, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie said of their decision to stay in the United States, “We will stay here so that Henrik can finish high school. That is what makes the most sense if we want to do the big package with the children.”

The Danish Royal House said of the Prince’s role: “Prince Joachim reports to the Ministry of Defence and in his daily work to the ambassador in Washington, DC.”

Both Prince Joachim and Princess Marie return to Denmark for some royal engagements throughout the year.

The Prince first took up the roles at the Danish Embassy in September 2023.
